I am happy to inform you that the inauguration of the celebrations of the
125th birth anniversary of Ramanujan will take place in Chennai on December
26, 2011.
The Honourable Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh will be the Chief
Guest and will declare 2012 as National Mathematical Year.
A coomemorative stamp will be released by Hon'ble Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister
for HRD. His Excellecy the Governor of Tamilnadu will preside over the occasion.
A new edition of the 'Ramanujan Notebooks' (photocopies of the notebooks
maintained by Ramanujan)
is to be released.
Robert Kanigel, author of the biography of Ramanujan ('The Man Who Knew
Infinity') will be felicitated on the occasion.

Those desirous of attending the function should srnd an e-mail request to
Shri. Vishnu Prasad to reach before 5 PM December 20 ,2011 giving the name
and address and official affiliation (the last institution in the case of
retired people who should specify that he/she has retired) at the following

Invitation will be mailed to you. In case they do not reach you in time you
may collect the same between 8:00 and 9:00 AM on January 26 at the venue.
The invitations need to be produced for admission into thhe hall along with a
photo identity card.
Please note that the invitees are to be in their seats by 9:30 AM - one half hour
before the arrival of the PM. Also no bags will be allowed to be carried into
the auditorium and there may be no provision of a "cloak room" to leave bags.
