The National Instructional Workshop on Complex Analysis held during June 1-5, 2007 in the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal was supported by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), TEQIP of NITK, Surathkal and The Clay Mathematics Foundation of USA.The programme was guided by Professor Ravi S. Kulkarni, I.I.T., Bombay and there were four resource persons, namely, Professor Anand Prakash Singh, University of Jammu, Professor R. R. Simha, University of Mumbai, Professor R.S. Bhoosnurmath, Karnatak University, Dharwad and Dr. B.R.Shankar, Dept. of M.A.C.S., N.I.T.K. Surathkal apart from Prof. Ravi Kulkarni himself. There were a total of 52 participants, of whom 33 were from outside the institution.
Complex Analysis is a well developed concept in Mathematics and is perceived to be almost saturated from the point of view of further research. But contrary to this belief, Professor Ravi S. Kulkarni and his team of resource persons brought forth some new ideas and gave a new angle to the study of complex analysis from the standpoint of Differential Geometry and Topology. The resource persons were duly supported by three tutors, Vikram Aithal (I.I.T., Bombay), Ms. Vaishali Prabhu (Karnatak University, Dharwad) and Ontigodi V.H. (Karnatak University, Dharwad). The participants were deeply impressed by the workshop and this was evident through their regular participation on all the five days.
The programme was, indeed, an innovative and exhilerating experience to the partcipants as well as the organizers.
